Dr. Sharma is an M.A., an M.Phil and Ph.D in Telugu Literature from University of Hyderabad. He has also obtained Post Graduate Diploma in Distance Education (PGDDE) from Indira Gandhi National Open University. He stood First in his M.A. and was awarded Gold Medal.

He began his career as a Trained Graduate Teacher in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Samithi in Patna Region in 1990 and has worked for more than Six and a half years before joining IGNOU as Assistant Regional Director at IGNOU Regional Centre, Ahmadabad in 1997. Dr. Sharma was promoted as Deputy Director in 2006. He has the experience of working at different Regional Centres of IGNOU – Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Delhi-2 and currently he is posted at IGNOU Regional Centre, Vijayawada in 2012. In his tenure of fifteen years at IGNOU, he has worked in different cells/units such as Admissions, Evaluation and Monitoring. He has the experience and association with all the academic activities at Regional Centre except Finance. He has also participated in the Interactive Radio Counselling at All India Radio and Gyan Vani and also participated in live and interactive Television Programmes for the promotion of IGNOU Programmes.

He has participated and presented papers in many seminars in the area of Distance Education and Telugu Literature at various universities. He is the member of the Evaluation Committee of the Community Colleges of IGNOU and was also on the panel of NIOS, Hyderabad Region as a member of the screening committee for the selection of Study Centre for NIOS in Andhra Pradesh. He was one of the co-authors of a book entitled “Distance Education in Andhra Pradesh”. He was also involved as a team member of the DEC project report on the “Status of Distance Higher Education in Andhra Pradesh”.

Among his publications, the “Translation of three famous Dramas of Kalidasa into modern Telugu Language, which was published by the Peacock Classics in the year 2009” and six other Religious publications are prominent.

As a part of the academic activities, he has coordinated the translation of IGNOU Programmes into Telugu medium for the following programmes: CAFÉ/DAFE, CPF, BPP and DDT

He has been the examiner for various universities like Banarus Hindu University and other Universities.
